I agree with Allan on this one.  Some of Zindel's works might be fine for the upper 
level or more mature elementary students, but be sure that you have read them 
before you offer the titles to those who think they're ready.

As far as Cormier (also one of my all-time favorite YA authors), I would not put 
his books in an elementary library because of their "dark and ominous" storylines.  
The books are great for YAs who are always looking for these types of materials, 
but the books would not be appropriate for elementary students who haven't 
experienced some of situations or feelings that some of the characters have in 
these works.

There are far too many GOOD books out there for the upper elementary level to start 
reaching for the YA shelves yet.  Keep reading and suggesting those wonderful 
titles...Zindel and Cormier can be read in due time.

I believe some of Zindel would be fine with elementary students...but be

As for Cormier (one of my all-time favorite authors - may he rest in
peace) - never in an elementary ( in my opinion).
