[LM_NET] 9th grade summer reading

Hi all,
Our English department is selecting summer reading for next year. They will be
using Monster, Ender's Game & Secret Life of Bees as options for our "regular"
level class, but they would like to offer a couple more options, preferably one
by a woman about a female protagonist. They're really looking for high interest
selections...books the students might actually read on their own. Most students
last year selected Monster because it is so accessible. Any suggestions?
