Yay for "shushing," Allan! We have a very large campus with several
buildings. During their "frees," high school students can be just about
wherever they want, . The ONLY place on campus that they are promised a
quiet work space is the library. So I address the ones who are too loud in a
soft voice (usually, at least at first) and remind them that they have 11
acres other than the library in which to be loud. Those who come to the
library to work have a right to expect quiet. "This is a quiet work space:
if you are not quiet and you are not working you need to find someplace else
to be."
What I find remarkable is that some students have several frees every day,
and even though they have "no work to do" they insist on being in the
library. That may not be a bad thing, but it sure is perplexing!
