Dear LM_NET Colleagues, The discussion of New Orleans evokes wonderful images for me, despite having suffered from the humidity when I was there for the NECC Conference a couple summers ago. Yes, it was quite humid, but the conference quality overcame the discomfort from the humidity-- which I actually seemed to adjust to somewhat by the time I was ready to leave. Impressions of New Orleans all include the many wonderful people I met at the conference. I was fortunate to be able to spend free time and attend conference sessions with a great group of library-related folks who pointed me in the right direction, guided me to the nicest spots, entertained and conversed with me, and generally made my visit to New Orleans unforgettable! I accomplished one of my goals: Having coffee at Cafe du Monde, pretending I was a character in a James Lee Burke mystery. What a treat! I went there several times. And ooo-la-la, the restaurants in the French Quarter-- some of the best meals I have ever had in my life! The trolley cars (sadly, did not ride the "Desire") were a joyous treat to ride. Sort of like being in an amusement park! ;-) The later at night the better! Of course the conference was held in a great location, right next to the Mississippi River, a very romantic setting that was fun to explore, or just sit an gaze at during a free moment. I hope that many of you will have a chance to attend ALA in New Orleans, and have as wonderful time as I had. I am sorry that I won't be able to be there with you. However, I will be attending the NECC Conference in San Diego this July-- and we will be having an LM_NET Birds of a Feather gathering (more on that later). Maybe we will get together there!
