So, as I was kindly reminded, LM_NET does not "do" attachments. Clearly a sign that I'm losing it. So, for those of you who might be interested - here's the job posting - Title: Program Officer, Program on Human and Community Development Background The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, one of the nation's largest charitable organizations, with assets of approximately $5.2 billion, seeks a program officer in its domestic grantmaking program. This position, based in Chicago, Illinois, offers a singular opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the domestic program's emerging portfolio of work in digital media and education. The MacArthur Foundation is a private, independent grantmaking institution dedicated to helping groups and individuals foster lasting improvement in the human condition. It seeks the development of healthy individuals and effective communities; peace within and among nations; responsible choices about human reproduction, and global ecosystem capable of supporting healthy societies. The organization's 175 employees serve these goals through support for research, policy, education, and practice. As one of the two major grantmaking programs at the MacArthur Foundation, the Program on Human and Community Development (HCD) operates in the United States and in 2004 awarded grants and program-related investments totaling $70.6 million. The Foundation is seeking to fill a Program Officer position in the Program on Human and Community Development with an individual who has training and experience that is relevant to this area of work. Significant understanding of and engagement with new digital media is required. Responsibilities The Program Officer will be responsible for managing grantmaking activities in this area, and will: design and refine grantmaking strategies, identify prospective grant recipients, review and evaluate proposals, and prepare grant descriptions for administrative and board consideration; maintain relationships with individuals and organizations relevant to the field; manage complex program elements; monitor the performance of grantees and the implementation of grant strategies; organize meetings with prospective grantees, grantees and program advisors; represent the Foundation at program-related meetings and conferences; and participate in planning future program strategies. This role will provide a good opportunity for an experienced professional who is interested in exploring a career in youth development and learning with a specific emphasis on the role of technology. This may be an appropriate opportunity for a mid-career professional who is interested in a two-to-three-year appointment while on leave from his/her current position. Some travel is required. Qualifications * Graduate training and experience as a researcher or designer, with a strong grasp of research and theoretical literature relating to adolescent development and technology. * Practical, on-the-ground experience. * Familiar with significant thought leaders and national organizations. * Proven ability to serve as a respectful, collaborative colleague with the ability to build bridges and actively engage diverse staff members, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in productive, vigorous debate. * Excellent oral and written communications skills, including the ability to write for presentation and publication. * Self-confident, with good diplomatic instincts, a collegial personality, high professional standards, and good judgment. * Able to work with minimal support staff. * Able to be persuaded by evidence and to recognize important insights as they emerge from research. * Able to work across disciplines in a rigorous environment in which staff members are expected to engage each other in thoughtful intellectual exchange. * Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to function as part of an interdisciplinary team.
