There's a thoughtful article by Larry Magid titled "House Misfires On Internet Safety" on the CBS News website today - here is a link: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/08/01/scitech/pcanswer/main1853357.shtml Although the House version of DOPA allows adult-supervised use of commercial social networking sites for educational purposes, the fear is that school district officials or technical coordinators will find it easier to just block them all. One solution would be to set up our own non-commercial websites to provide these services to schools in a tightly monitored way, either at the district or state level. There is free open-source software available for all the major social networking services like blogs, wikis, bookmarking, photo sharing, etc. John Fritz Media Specialist Neil Armstrong Elementary Park View, Iowa jomfritz@mchsi.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
