Just in time for hurricane season, SUNLINK presents: Disaster Preparedness Resources for School Library Media Centers, webpages with information about and resources for preparing for emergencies and disasters, what to do after disaster strikes, and how SUNLINK can help (in Florida, that is). On these pages you'll find checklists and web sites for school library media specialists to reference when preparing for hurricanes, fires, floods and other disasters (and how to recover if the worst happens). There is an annotated list of resources recommended by LM_NET members and Florida school library media specialists, and there are links to SUNLINK resources already in our schools on topics such as death, disaster, fear, fire, flood, hurricanes, medical emergencies, and tragedies that may offer information, comfort or support by grade and interest level. Special thanks to all school library media specialists who sent us information and to Nancy Case, Media Supervisor, Alachua County Schools, who sent us a link to their new webpage on hurricane preparedness. We've provided easy access to these pages through the SUNLINK site map on the school library media specialists' portal page (Disaster Preparedness). We've also provided a link to the pages from the principals' portal page under Florida Resources. You can find these pages at http://www.sunlink.ucf.edu/disasterprep/default.html It's never too early to be prepared for any emergency. We hope you'll find these resources useful...and we hope you'll never have to use the recovery pages, but we know from past experience that bad things happen even to prepared library media specialists.
