These are the suggestions I received:

1. I play music all the time in my elementary libraries (I was a music teacher in
my former teaching career!). Studies show that playing music that's about 60 beats
a minute opens the brain to more concentration. I can't always stick to that and I
feel that kids should be exposed to various forms of music - although mine might be
subliminal. I play Native American flute music, "relaxation" music, a lot of
Mozart, easy jazz, nature sounds like frogs, and ocean, and, yes, even opera.
There are many productions like, Bach for Book Lovers, Debussy for Children, Mozart
for Monday mornings, etc. I play them very quiety, unless I'm by myself, and while
many people don't notice the music is playing, they always notice when it isn't.
It's a great way to set a calming influence in the library.

Here are some sites that might help you - but I would suggest that you find music
that you enjoy and that relaxes you and use that.

I am lazy, my stereo and bet set to repeat the whole CD so I usually set it in the
morning and walk away from it.

Good luck and enjoy

2. We like classical music

3. I you have a Mac I use classical music online through iTunes

4. Anything Windham Hill. I love George Winston's December, and keep it on from
Thanksgiving until New Year!

Go to www.soothingmusic.com and listen to their features.

5. Gary Lamb has nice background music. His Music for the Mind is written at the
60 beats per minute http://www.garylamb.com/

Gary Jess http://www.garyjess.com/ also has nice music

as does Guy Maeda http://www.pianolight.com/main.html

You can get at least some of the the 2 Gary's work off iTunes. I think all three
have samples you can listen to on their websites. They are probably also available
on Amazon but I think you can also order directly from their websites...

Thanks again to all who responded.
