[LM_NET] TARGET: 5th grade research/pursuasive writing

My fifth grade teachers are looking for a creative research project that would lead 
to the writing of a pursuasive essay.  I have suggested a modification of the 
"American Idol" project from 
AASL's EVERYBODY READS.  Has anyone else done something (any content area) that was 
fun and successful?
