I'm interested in using some communication technologies in a program for educators / librarians, but I was interested in how these are being used / abused / restricted now in your schools. Is anyone using an instant messaging (IM) system at their school between teachers, administrators and librarians? Examples of these might be AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo, Skype or others? (I'm not interested in an email system but rather an IM system / chat system.) Are these technologies blocked by your filters for ALL users or just students? Are social networking websites (MySpace, Xanga, Friendster, etc.) blocked for all students or are any of you using these sites for educational purposes? How will DOPA affect your use of these types of communication technologies in the classroom? I'll post a HIT if others are interested.
