Hello to all! New librarian here. I was just in to see the library of the school I will be working at this year. While observing the collection, I noticed that a good portion of the books were without coverings. For example: The hardcovers had dust jackets, but no mylar (?) sleeve to protect the jacket and keep it in place. Also, the paperbacks did not have the plastic coverings (contact paper?) either. Is it common practice to have these plastic covers? It seems that most libraries have them and I'm sure it keeps the books in better condition. I am also wondering how & what to order if I want to cover the books? Can you order books to already have the covering on? What is the process for covering both the hardcovers and paperbacks? Thanks in advance for any advice or directions.
