Anyone out there know the award for Information books???

Here are parts of replies. Some were so close I didn't repeat them. But
thanks to yo all for responding. Hopes this helps those who asked me to pass
it on!

I have taken the Praxis II and III in the last two years, and I bought two
or three manuals to study from. The one that has the Media Specialist info
in it, I believe, is the Administrators book. I also had to take a teacher's
Praxis. The people at Kent State University, where I got my degree, said to
take the elementary or high school Praxis because the Middle School one was
unnecessarily hard and they have a high rate of failure.

Good luck, and I am sure you will do fine. I had 5 or more years
experience, and it wasn't so bad, but do prepare yourself. They are timed,
and make sure you answer all the questions. I only say that because I
almost missed a question because it was behind a blank page, or on the back
or something silly like that.

Study Information Power for the Praxis. It has almost everything you need
to know. If you go to the PRAXIS website they also have a sample test.

Go to the ETS site and look for the study guide. SCHOOL LEADERS AND SERVICES
ID 733526 ..double check on the item #. price is 40.00 est. LMS is in
there
I have not taken the School Library test in the past year (sorry). But I
did take it in '97 and I think it had just changed the year before so
hopefully they are using the same test. I'll just fill you in on what I
remember, although everyone apparently gets a different version so I'm not
sure how helpful this will be!
First, I remember there were lots of questions on various review sources.
Since middle/high was my area of interest, I drew blanks on the elementary
sources. So that's something to think about
Second, be sure you are very clear on _Information Power_ I recall many
questions on that - but that should be old hat to you by now.
And third, if you have taken a SL Administration class lately that will
probably help a great deal.
I also looked at the review book Praxis put out but the actual test was *far
and away* much easier than the review book. Who knows if we are talking
about the same book or not - but I remember the book really scared me and
the actual test came quite naturally after 2 years of grad school
think it is just the Library Media portion. I have not had it in my
possession to know. Here is a link to the Amazon page.

That should have all of the information. The author is Rinear. Hope this
helps
I took the Praxis II: PL&T a year ago last November. I didn't do a lot of
studying for it, but remember wishing I had boned up on some of the basic
lesson planning and teaching strategies I had learned in college. The one I
took did not focus on library at all.
The written questions had to do with describing a classroom problem/issue
and
what could be done about it. Things like what to do about a student who
doesn't
understand a concept you're trying to teach. Another question I remember was
about a teacher who was trying to do a group learning project. It described
what he/she did on day 1, day 2, etc. I had to analyze his procedure and
tell
how I would do it differently, etc.
******************************************************************************
********** I took the LMS PRAXIS last spring and the old Info Power stuff
(allotments
of money, space, personnel) was among the questions. Glad I read the old
Info Power, although it was confusing about what version the test was
sticking too -- e.g am I taking a test in 1990 or in 2000?

I did very well on my test and stuck to my guns about collaboration and
instructional leadership. Know your ps&qs about the meat&potatoes (all these
clich&eacute:s) of being a librarian though.

will be taking the PRAXIS in April and wanted to let everyone know that
you can download a study guide from the following site for all of the PRAXIS
concentration area tests. You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader to access
these study guides.

Good Luck to all who are taking one of these tests!

Sorry about the web address on the site for the Praxis II guide. I had it
> bookmarked, so I thought it was easy to find.
> Go to www.gsfc.org/hope/frametchpage.htm
> Then click on GA's Hope Scholarship Programs.
> Next click on Teacher Scholarship Program.
> Next click Approved Educator Preparation Programs in GA.
> Still with me? Under Educator Testing clik on Praxis II information.
> Scroll down to Media Specialist.
> Finally choose "Click to get the study guide"
> The site gives a good breakdown to what type and how many questions to
> expect and sample questions with explanatory answers.
Three texts come to mind and you probably already
have them. "Information Power: Building Partnership
for Learning" by the ALA, "Administering the School
Library Media Center" by Morris, and "The Collection
Program in Schools: Concepts, Practices, and
Information Sources" by Van Orden
I took the Praxis in March. Be sure to study court cases, children's
authors, mission statements, and how the librarians responsibilities and duties,
along with how he/she can enhance student learning.

there were lots of questions about automated cataloging and collection
development. There were at least three questions about awards including the award
given for information books (the title of which escapes me right now, but
it's definitely lesser known.) There were a couple of author/genre questions,
some about serial jobbers, budgeting, and MARC format.

If you've been working in a library with automated cataloging, you should be
 fine

I recently took the Praxis. In my opinion it was not very difficult. I
would say study Information Power. You might also look at a few of the landmark
court cases involving CIPA and filtering. There were also questions about
who publishes some ot the library journals. Those were the two things that
stumped me. On all of the questions keep in mind that student achievement is
always put first, and this will help you narrow down any answers that you may
not be certain about
Here is a link which may help.
