I would like to find out how other elementary schools deal with overdue books. In our K-1 school, if a child forgets to return their book on library day, we allow them to select another book but we hold it for them until they return their overdue book. If they bring in their overdue anytime before their next library visit, we let them check out the book we are holding. Obviously, this may not be the best way to teach students responsibility and perhaps they should have to wait until their next scheduled library visit to get their new book. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated!
