[LM_NET] TAR: Easy reader from 50's?

Dear Collective Brain:

Here's a request from the parent of one of our students - 
not much to go on.  
She fondly remembers (and would like to find) a book from 
the late 50's or early 60's.  The main character 's name 
is  Bartholomew and there are some other animals in it. 
 It probably would have been an easy reader or short 
chapter book.  A cursory search on some OOP sites didn't 
turn up anything that looked right. 

Ring any bells?
