Thanks to all who responded. I got a number of title suggestions. I'll probably wait and see if they want input from me. If they are happily generating titles on their own, I'll probably let them run with it. I would let the students dictate the book choice - with a little guidance from you. My students, the teacher advisor and I all have an equal vote on our book selections. As for picking a humorous title, none of our students would generally choose something funny. Their first choice would be either fantasy or realistic problem novels. Perhaps your students have different interests. I would suggest Eragon or Sabriel for popular fantasy fiction. Both were very well received. Other popular titles our group read: Lovely Bones, Tomorrow When the War Began, My Sister's Keeper, Soldier X, Girl Interrupted, or Feed. How I paid for college : a novel of sex, theft, friendship & musical theater by Marc Acito This is a book our upper classmen have enjoyed. You might consider the first book in the Jasper Fforde series, The Big Over Easy. It is a murder mystery featuring Detective Jack Spratt and his co-worker, Mary Mary. They are investigating the death of Humpty Dumpty. It definitely fits into the category of adult reads for children, but there is no inappropriate content. I laughed on every page. Very British humor. Fforde has a website too, featuring a link to the "Nursery Crime Division." http://www.jasperfforde.com/ <https://webmail.wawm.k12.wi.us/exchweb/bin/redir.asp?URL=http://www.jasperfforde.com/> Additionally, Amazon offers an excerpt. How about Sleeping Freshmen Never Lie? Author is David Lubar - and a paperback version will be available in January. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think there would also be a lot to talk about with teens... peer pressure, how to "impress" a girl, the definition of popularity, what is really most valuable in high school life... and it's funny too! Funny in Farsi, a Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America by Firoozeh Dumas is a great humorous book, plus it gives us a different perspective. How about The 5 People You Meet in Heaven? Another good one is A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck.
