Information Literacy Librarian

<http://www.libraries.psu.edu/>The Pennsylvania State University 
Libraries seek two motivated, energetic early-career librarians to 
help develop innovative, cutting-edge learning environments and 
resources for students as part of the University Libraries' move 
toward a learning commons model of service.  These are 12-month 
tenure-track positions. The Information Literacy Librarians are 
members of the University Libraries faculty and the Instructional 
Programs/Gateway Library team, and; work collaboratively with other 
faculty to develop and provide course integrated instruction, 
workshops, online tutorials, and other learning initiatives for the 
Penn State community.  The unit's instructional mission is to design 
and create programs promoting information literacy among Penn State 
students. It is centrally located in Pattee Library and provides 
in-person, telephone, and

assistance; offers tours and instructional sessions for community 
groups; conducts outreach programs for first year students, adult 
learners, international students, fraternities and sororities, and 
other cross-disciplinary groups; and offers an individually tailored 
<http://www.libraries.psu.edu/gateway/mentoring.html>mentoring 
program to guide students through the research process. These 
entry-level positions report to the Head of Instructional 
Programs/Interim Head of the Gateway Library.

These two positions share the following responsibilities (specifics 
of the individual assignments will be determined from among these 
responsibilities as the positions are filled to meet the changing 
needs of Penn State students).

Library Instruction
    * First level classes, including English, Communication Arts and 
Sciences, first year seminars, and ESL classes
    * Development of instructional materials, including websites and 
online tutorials
    * Identifying and implementing new programs utilizing innovative 
instructional technologies (RSS, podcasts, etc.)
    * Development of instructional assessment tools
    * Use of classroom instructional technologies
Reference
    * Reference service in the Gateway Library and roving reference on campus
    * Assisting patrons with technology-related issues (Endnote, 
circulating laptop support, wireless access, online resources, etc.)
    * Virtual reference service (chat, email, IM)
Outreach
    * Libraries' Open House, an orientation event serving over 5000 
students each year
    * Programs for special constituencies (adult learners, 
international students, student athletes, K-12 student groups, etc.)
    * Programs and initiatives for area school, public and other 
academic librarians
Collection Development in appropriate subjects.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires an MLS from an ALA-accredited program (or 
equivalent); academic background, coursework or relevant experience 
in bibliographic instruction, information literacy or teaching; 
excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent 
interpersonal skills; ability in the use of a variety of 
technological applications; and the ability to communicate and work 
with diverse populations.

PREFER: Experience or coursework in providing reference assistance 
and classroom instruction in an academic, special, or public library; 
evidence of potential for tenure and promotion; evidence of a 
commitment to service; knowledge or experience using and 
troubleshooting software and hardware utilized in a student-centered 
library environment.

COMPENSATION: Salary and rank commensurate with experience. Excellent

nation. The Libraries hold membership in ARL, OCLC, CRL and the 
Digital Library Federation. Collections exceed 5 million volumes,

University Libraries are located at University Park and 23 other 
campuses throughout Pennsylvania, with approximately 6,000 faculty 
and 42,000 students at University Park, and more than 82,000 students 
system wide. The University Park campus is set in the State College
