There is a Canadian writer, Stuart Mclean, who has a series of books
(Stories from the Vinyl Cafe, The Vinyl Cafe Unplugged, The Vinyl Cafe
Diaries) with tales of Dave and Morley - Dave owns a small second-hand
record store called the Vinyl Cafe. Morley is his wife. The stories are
full of funny, interesting characters including Dave and Morley's two kids,
their dog, their cat (who learns to flush the toilet) and a variety of
friends including Kenny Wong who owns the shop, Wong's Scottish Meat Pies.
We have multiple copies of these books in our library and they are rarely on
the shelves. I have, on occassion, been almost late for work because one of
these stories was being read on CBC radio in the morning and I couldn't
leave the house until it was finished!

David Sedaris is always good for a laugh-I recommend listening to him
reading it.

Subject: [LM_NET] OT: funny adult bk. club bk.
A group of female teachers have a very informal book club-it's more of an
excuse to have a girls night out. We've read all the other recommended
books like "Kite Runner", "Secret Life of Bees", "Curious Incident of the
Dog in the Night-time" and would like something light and funny for a change
I've thought about suggesting "Harris and Me" or "A Long Way From Chicago"
but am not sure if they want to read YA books although every adult I've ever
known who has read them loved them.

Do you have any suggestions for something light and funny for our book club
to read to alleviate the cold and dreariness of winter?

Thanks,
