I received 3 replies on my question about converting a powerpoint to DVD. I have found some software on the internet that does this but it is somewhat expensive (although it does allow for a free trail) Its called Powepoint DVD maker. I did download it but haven't tried it out yet. I guess I will keep looking or go another route. I really like the plug-in in powerpoint that allows you to add all your pictures at one time though. I am not familiar enough with some of the other software available to know if it has an option to do this. With Windows movie maker I think you have to add the pictures one at a time and I have A LOT! Thanks for your replies! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------ At least on a Mac this is fairly easy though it does involved a number of steps. With the 2004 version of PowerPoint I have there is an option to save as a movie under File. Once it is a .mov you still need to put it into iMovie as iDVD doesn't recognize the Powerpoint version of .mov From iMovie share it to iDVD where you can then burn it to a dvd... If you don't have a Mac with up to date software hopefully you can find someone who does or find out how to do it on Windows. Good luck! You have given me an idea that I hadn't thought of before! Making easy to launch movie versions of some of my instructional powerpoints! Barb Engvall [macbarb@charter.net] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- When I have done this, I first must save the slides as jpegs. Open up powerpoint slideshow, go to Save As, and use the dropdown menu by Save as Type to select JPEG File Interchange Format. You will be asked if you want to convert the current slide or all of the slides. Select all. A file of jpegs from your slideshow will appear. Then, based on which DVD editing software you use (I've used Pinnacle, Roxio, and Windows Movie Maker), import the jpegs. You will have to add text and music in separately and can put in transitions between the jpegs. Then render and burn the DVD. I have tried using a program called SnagIt to do this also. It will "capture" whatever is going on the desktop. So you could run the Powerpoint as SnagIt captures it. Save it as an avi file and then import it into your DVD editing program. I can't remember if the sounds and music also get captured or if you have to reimport them. Render and burn the DVD. You can download the software as a trial. I found the quality to be poor. My best success was with the first method. When doing a slideshow, we now simply skip Powerpoint and make the slideshow right in the DVD software for best quality. Hope this makes sense and helps you! Susan Schiavetti ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------- here are a few ways to convert a PowerPoint to a DVD. On a Windows XP machine, the easiest may be to save each slide as an image that can be added to a movie using Windows MovieMaker (included with XP). NOTE: this will remove all transitions and animations Directions: 1) In PowerPoint, go to File and click Save As. 2) Change the "Save as Type" to JPEG File Interchange Format (.jpg) 3) Browse to the desired location (an empty folder is best) and click "Save" 4) Select to convert "Every Slide" 5) Exit PowerPoint Then...open Windows MovieMaker (Start/Programs/Accessories usually) 6) On your desktop, browse to the folder that has all of your slide images 7) Select all the images and drag&drop them onto the Windows Movie Maker program to import them 8) You can then drag and drop each slide onto a spot on the Storyboard (the slides are numbered!) 9) When you are ready, go to File and Save Movie File 10) Burn the movie file to DVD using your DVD movie creating software Chris Harris [cgharris@gvboces.org] -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lynn Autry Library Media Specialist Central Hardin High School Cecilia, KY 42724 lynn.autry@hardin.kyschools.us tlautry@comcast.net -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
