I'm stumped with a copyright question - I'm sure someone out there has had a similar experience and can offer some guidance. The music/band teacher has asked me for advice. At an upcoming concert, the band and chorus will perform music from "The Incredibles" - legally procured, no photocopying, etc. He would like to know if during parts of the performance, could they flash some scenes from the movie of the same name, on a screen. They would not be showing the entire movie, just scenes. I'm pretty sure that if he were to show the entire movie, it would be a violation of copyright and not fair use. But since it's just a few scenes, background to the performing going on, I'm unsure about it. The performance will be in the gym, the students take band and chorus as a class and participation in the concert is required as part of their grade. To me, I could interpret that as face-to-face teaching, but since there will be an audience, I think that is where they might be in trouble. Any help would be appreciated!
