[LM_NET] Humor: 2nd grade

I've been sharing Bill Peet's books with my second graders.  Last Friday I
was losing my voice so rather than read aloud, I spread out all the books
and instructed the second graders to look at the pictures and see what they
noticed about the art.  They had a blast sharing their observations and has
some really good insights.  However, it was all I could do to keep a
straight face when two of the girls proudly announced that they had
discovered that Bill Peet had been "expired" by his own drawing of a train
in one book to draw a similar train in a later book.  They had checked the
copyright pages to determine which book had been written first so they would
know which book "expired" him to do the other.  

A few minutes later, they discover two stories with birds that had scary
faces on their tail feathers and they instructed the rest of the class how
to check the dates to see which book "expired" the other.  

I guess they have been paying attention when I have suggested that different
authors and illustrators may have been inspired by other artists!
