I second the nomination for principal/administrator of the year for this principal! Toward the end of last year my principal actually told me the library could not be closed to students at any point during the school day. Doors open, lights on, staffed, the whole deal. Since it is impossible for my aide and I to take separate lunches, we eat in the office and have a "working lunch." every day. I haven't forced the issue with him because there is NO way I'd want anyone else other than my trusty sidekick and myself within 100 yards of my library. I can only imagine the havoc they could wreak over the course of a 40-minute lunch. As for me, my lunch used to be an apple, granola bar, and yogurt, but now that I'm expecting I've really beefed it up. Otherwise I have no chance of lasting the afternoon. I bring anything from soup to dinner leftovers to sandwiches. I also have to agree with the poster who mentioned nut butters for lasting energy. I have peanut butter toast for breakfast every morning and nothing keeps me going through the morning better! She had numerous reasons for this, some of which included: networking/meeting the staff, unwinding from a long morning, let my hair down and relaxing, and getting to recharge my "work" battery for the long afternoon. __ Courtney McPherson Guarneiri, Library Media Specialist * J.D.
