After reading all of these recommendations for lunch and realizing how fortunate I
am to actually be able to have a lunch sometimes---even when I shouldn't--- I've
decided that rather than just locating a teacher to TALK with everyday (see my
earlier email)...I would invite them to WALK with me during lunch.

Today I sent out an email inviting all of my HS teachers who want to take up a new,
healthy habit to walk with me during lunch (we can snack on apples, etc. on the
way). We have a long, winding road that is protected from the average highway
traffic and is located on our campus. The distance from the library to the
school's front entrance is approximately a half a mile---and walking to the front
and back to the library is about a mile. I figured we could walk a mile during
lunch--about a 15-20 minute hike---and still have time to get ready for the next
class OR grab an apple, cheese, crackers, etc.

So far I've had two "takers" today and I expect more later ---and don't think I'm
not going to use this time to just walk! This is going to be my "grab a teacher"
time...and with the walking, we can start to discover some unique opportunities to
collaborate, bring students into the library, and add new things (books, audios,
videos, databases, programs) to the library itself.

I'm hoping to get more teachers involved (and the PE teachers LOVE this idea of
physical fitness, so I can "rope those doggies" in this project by asking for their
advice and support--by walking with us!).

Oh, I feel so devious sometimes....<grin>
