Hello,
The cover story for Popular Mechanics for this month (Feb, 2005) is "Who's
Stealing Your Identity?". It is an excellent summary of the latest trends relating
to this aspect of technology's dark side. It is especially rich in new terminology
and vocabulary. You can learn the meaning of such things as phishing, Trojan
horses, zombie computers, man-in-the-middle attacks, URL obfuscation, DNS cache
poisoning, pharming and evil twins.

It also shows all the entities that have interest in your personal data
trail: Internet Service Provider, merchant's secure server, merchant's bank,
merchant's account provider, credit card processors, credit-issuing bank,
marketers, data aggregators and credit report agencies. "I am a name, not a
number!!" [So much for that point of view]

In giving a definition for Ad-Aware on the Webopedia website, this program
protects you from "data-mining, aggressive advertising, Parasites, Scumware,
selected traditional Trojans, Dialers, Malware, Browser hijackers, and tracking
components."

I wonder how many of these words will make it into Webster's Dictionary.
