Greetings The New York City School Librarians' Action Network Listserv (NYCSLAN) is our very own independent forum to share views, information, issues and concerns about the challenges we face everyday. More importantly, it is also an organizational tool to bring us closer together in awareness and understanding as School Librarians in New York City. Our Union, the United Federation of Teachers, has an expanded Negotiating Committee (some 341 people) in place for the 2007 Contract Negotiations with the DOE and NYC. Why don't we have our own representatives on that committee? We need to come together to formulate School Librarian demands to be included in the 2007 negotiations. We have to come together to highlight what we consider important for us as School Librarians in the next Contract. Here, we need to take into account all levels, Elementary, Middle School, and High School Librarians. This is very serious. We have to revisit the archaic provisions reserved for School Librarians in previous contracts and consider what changes are needed. NYCSLAN needs assistance in building up a database of School Librarians to expand the discussion among School Librarians citywide. We would like to have your help in gathering this information from the School Librarians in the New York City area. Day by day, we are growing both as a Listserv and as a School Librarians' organization. If you wish to be part of NYCSLAN, you have to be a NYC School Librarian, and send us your name, school, a non-work phone #, a non-work e-mail address, and region to antoine2057@aol.com. Once we invite you, you will have to confirm the invitation in order to subscribe to NYCSLAN.
