Subject: [LM_NET] TARGET: Creating a "Reading with your child" program

Fellow librarians,

I am considering volunteering to create and teach some sort of basic
"reading with your child" class for a pregnancy help center in my area.
Many unwed, low socio-economic mothers with little education attend classes
there to receive free diapers and other supplies for their babies and
toddlers. Current classes they attend might be on nutrition or positive
discipline. I thought a class to help these women learn how to interact
with their children while reading (basic questioning techniques and
highlighting the importance of reading) would be a good idea for a class.
If any of you have any suggestions about where to start, I would love to
hear them. Mothers would only have to attend the course once, so I wouldn't
have a lot of time to teach, possibly an hour.

I will post a HIT if there are enough responses.

Thanks in advance,

Amy Steward
