Thanks to all who responded. I plan to follow through with all of your suggestions. Here are the responses. You are fortunate to be in Houston which is the home of DLB Educational Corporation: http://www.dlbeduc.net/ . They have extensive catalogs of Spanish and bilingual materials that you can purchase in library bindings. If materials are only available in paperback (as many Spanish language materials seem to be), they can get it "prebound" for you in hard cover. So that is a good source if your district has chosen them as a vendor. If not, see if you can get them approved so they can help you with your library needs. I also wanted to point out to check the website for the Tomas Rivera Award: http://www.education.txstate.edu/subpages/tomasrivera/index.html On this website, you will also find links to the Pura Belpre Award and the Barahona Center which can also help you in your book selection. I use Lectorum for a lot of my Spanish materials, some in dual language. I also have gone through the Perma-Bound on-line catalog to find additional titles. There is also a publishing company out of U of H which do dual language publications. Dr. Isabel Schon from the Barahona Center for the Study of Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents at California State University San Marcos maintains a database of recommended books in Spanish, bilingual books, and books in English about Latinos. The website is at http://www.csusm.edu/csb/. Here is a great website to look at for Spanish materials. http://www.cincopuntos.com/ The SLD also has good resources for Spanish-speaking patrons. http://www.sldirectory.com/libsf/resf/hispanic.html Esmeralda Majors Librarian, Lewis Elementary emajors@springisd.org esmajors@yahoo.com -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
