I recently purchased the book, Books Kids Will Sit Still For 3, and am perusing its pages. It's a fantastic resource for those of you who haven't seen it. This will be my first year as a librarian and my first year in an elementary school (I taught 9th grade for two years). The library is part of the "specials" rotation and I'll see about 39 classes every 3 weeks. My question is about the upper grade levels: do you typically read aloud to 5th and 6th graders? If so, do you read books that you can finish in one setting? Many of the books listed in Judy Freeman's book are around 200 pages. I'd love to read them to the kids, but I think a three week break between readings is too long to do that. What are some options to do instead? Thanks!
