Hi all, Hope you're all enjoying your summer....although it seems to be fleeting. SOME BACKGROUND: This is the first year our middle school checked out and now, checked in our students' textbooks. I realize that all change is difficult, but when we contacted some of our parents to let them know that the book(s) used by their students was damaged, they protested and some refused to pay for the damaged text(s). MY QUESTION: Does anyone have a rubric or an evaluative tool for determining the severity of damage of a book? It would make things so much easier if any damaged book could be assessed with the same tool so when parents question the decision to charge for the damage, we would have a standard which could be applied and support our decision. Please respond to me off the listserv and I'll post a hit if I get any responses. Readingly yours, Chris Evans Christine L.
