I was asked to post a hit on this topic. I did not
receive very many responses but here is what I have.
Thanks again to those who responded!

We meet during lunch so we are Cafe Book.

We don't have a regular book club (yet) but we do have
a manga/graphic novel club.. The students involved
came up with the name.. They chose to call it the
M.A.D. Book club (Manga Anime Discussion)... This
way, you see, they can say they're "going mad" after
school <grin> (gotta love 7th and 8th graders!).. My
recommendation would be to let the kids come up with
their own names and then vote on the choices... Much
more ownership that way...

Hi! We called our book club at my elementary school
Book Bash. The kids thought it was pretty cool because
it was like a party for books. I don't know if high
school students would go for that, but they might. We
had the same problem with wording our teacher contract
last year. They begain to refer to us as Bargaining
Unit Members or BUM. We would not have that so we are
now Members of the Bargaining Unit or BMU. Better than
BUMs I guess! Good luck!

Hi. I expanded ours when I got here to address various
aspects of
literacy.
Also, our mascot is the Tomcat (the high school's is
the Wildcat) So I
called us the Lit Cats. Then a week later I was
talking to my friend
who
happens to be in charge of the high school book club,
and she said
that's
what they were called... Eh, so much for original
ideas. So I asked the
kids, and we decided to be called the Junior Lit Cats.
So our shirts
have
JLC and a cat face on them. Our mascot is Dewey, the
reading cat. Most
of
the time, you can play off your school mascot. I've
noticed most clubs
do.
Hope that helps. :) PS...we put out an annual school
literary magazine
too.
I named it Cattails. (we have lots of those around the
lakes in south
Georgia, plus you know, Cats. It was a gimme.) Usually
the obvious
names are
the best ones. Good luck and let me know what you come
up with.

I'm in elementary, and I've always held mine during
lunch. I called it the Lunch Book Bunch.

The Bibliophiles

Vicki,
My students chose "Page Turners."

Thanks!
