My fixed schedule has changed this year and I will be covering planning period for
first and third grade teachers. In the past, each class has been scheduled into
the library once a week for 30 minutes. The teachers accompanied their classes.
This year the principal wants to insure that each grade level has a common planning
period at least twice a week. Because of the size of our campus, I have been added
to a rotation for first and third grade classes. These classes will come to the
library for 45 minutes once each week without their teachers. I have plenty of
ideas for the third grade classes but I am concerned about 45 minutes with first
grade students. I have no assistant and little or no volunteers available to
assist with these classes. I know that many of you wonderful librarians have
similar situations and I am asking for your advice. How do you fill this time with
quality instruction? I do not want to resort to United Streaming videos and
coloring sheets
on a weekly basis to fill in the time after our story and check out. I will post
a hit if there is sufficient interest.
