I have been asked to post a hit for the responses I received about free Dewey Posters. Upstart has some nice ones for a reasonable cost Some can be purchased from the ALA store. Last year I spent my own money and purchased Dewey posters from ALA. Not free. I do have my students make collage Dewey posters every year. After several weeks of teaching Dewey, I have them look through magazines and try to find pictures representing the different categories. I usually use the 500s,600s, 700s and 900s. The kids LOVE it. It's messy, but the result is free Dewey posters. I looked in the Highsmith catalog or the Demco catalog and copied what they had using Print Shop. How about making your own? Several years ago after a general intro to Dewey I assigned each 3,4 and 5 grade class a Dewey number. The children used magazines, KidPix, or drew pictures to represent topics found in the assigned Dewey section The class with the 100 was quite creative and drew faces showing different emotions. I hung them up over the Dewey sections and 3 years later- the younger children still look to the posters to find their favorite sections. Do you have Print Artist or something along those lines ? I made my first set of Dewey signs using this software and then laminated the signs. They've been hanging in my library for 6 years and cost me nothing except some printer ink, paper, and laminating film. Several people suggested using Jan Brett's site. She has free ones and they look great. Click on library signs. http://www.janbrett.com/interactive_main.htm Hope this helps you Karen -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
