Wow, what a big help you have been! Here are the suggestions I received for my request for Arabic books. 1. Just keep in mind that there are different dialects of Arabic. Even in Sudan they use different dialects. You will have to ask your students which dialect they read and understand. (Thanks so much, I will do this.) 2. When I was a school librarian, I remember talking to one a rep from Follett about ordering books in other languages. I had one student that was adamant about having books in Thai in the library. We had students representing over 40 different countries, with a significant Arabic speaking population. I never ordered any Arabic books because parents and community members usually donated these. However I do remember the rep mentioned the ability to order in other languages. If you aren't registered with Titlewave(www.titlewave.com) it is very easy to do and allows you to search with no obligations to buy. I miss this service being in the public library now. (I looked there and it was wonderful, perfect. Thanks.) 3. Asia for Kids. I got Arabic, Vietnamese, Russian, Hmong and Spanish bilingual books. (I went there, asiaforkids.com, and it was great. Thanks, Pam.) 4. I buy mine at Borders or Barnes and Noble in my state. (wonderful. Thanks, Debra) I now have a great basis to sit with my students and make some selections. You have all been a great help. Lorelei Perkins Library media specialist. They enjoy the library and check out a number of picture books to help strengthen their vocabulary and grammar skills. I would like to obtain a few books in the language they are more comfortable reading, just as a treat and to share with their younger siblings. They state that Arabic books would fit the bill. Does anyone know any titles and vendors that could supply some Arabic picture books up to young adult readers? Thanks in advance.
