Shonda wrote: I would much rather provide a "buy one-get one free" book fair and ask that any "free titles" be provided as NEW titles to these groups than to send the outdated, worn, worthless materials that we feel is inferior for our student to others because they need materials for instruction / reading What a fabulous idea! I work in a well-to-do community and the parents' auxiliary runs two book fairs a year. Parents do collect gently used books to donate to the local children's hospital, but I love the idea of buy-1-get-1-free for a needy group that might replace all or part of the current "buy a book to donate to the library" we've had in place for years. As it is, we get to choose which books they donate, but recently I requested that if they liked they could donate toward the databases instead. After all, kids use those a lot more than books, it seems. Your idea would satisfy their need to buy "books" and make me feel a lot better about an emarrassment of riches. I can't wait to suggest it to the committee! Maureen S.
