First, thanks for all the good will. I'll admit I was having some end of the year
bumming out issues, but this and y'all's response to it has swept all the gloom
from the room like an oversized gloom broom.
Now, several folks have asked what I was planning on using the monies for. The
biggest target will be my reference collection. Now I know that the 'net has taken
over a lot of "ready reference" questions, but my latest encyclopedias are 1996,
and I just think that's atrocious. Also, we got new social studies standards this
year and are getting new science standards next year, so a big chunk of the award
will go to updating those areas, mostly the 500s and the latter 900s.
What I loved about this grant is there's not a big "project" you have to do. The
money is for books. $5000 to spend on books, what a librarian's dream.
Oh yeah, one more thing before I go . . . um . . . I'm a guy. It's no big deal,
"Shannon" throws lots of people off, and I've never forgiven my mom for the fact I
never got to enjoy a blue bike license plate :)
