There is also a national Freecycle group that has local area groups where
people give away items they no longer need to keep them out of landfills.

In light of the recent postings on what to do with materials no
longer being used, this was just shared in my district:

Like eBay, but without the money

What do you do with your books when you're finished reading
them? Or the video games, DVDs, or CDs that you're tired of? You
could sell them at a local store. Or you could put them up for
sale on eBay or Craigslist. There are even sites that will let
you "sell" them into a trading network for credits that you can
use to buy other used items. But soon there will be a completely
free (except for postage) trading network, Swaptree. Can a
commerce system work without money? Read my first look for more.

... there's a free service, Swaptree, scheduled to launch in July.
Not only is it a no-cost option, it will let you trade among types of
items, not just DVD to DVD or CD to CD.
