I had to declare my professional goal for next year and decided that creating a collection map would help me to see where the collection is strong and weak. I searched the archives and the most current HIT is from 2000, listing articles and books from the 80s. I know that Debra Kachel wrote Collection Assessment and Management for School Libraries in 1997 and Amazon has it available. I also found (through their "buy it with this title") The Collection Program in Schools: Concepts, Practices, and Information Sources (2001). I have The Information Powered School which has one chapter and a few forms. I will do a search of magazine articles in the coming months. Does anyone have anything else that they would recommend that I use as a tool? Have you used any of the above titles? Do you advise against purchasing any titles that you've spent your money on? Do you have any advice or experiences to share? If you did this, did you have to get faculty and administrators on board? Did you have problems getting teachers to complete forms regarding resources in their rooms or curricular focus? Do you have any forms or files that you've used successfully and are willing to pass along to me? I expect this to be a long-term goal that will not be completed in one year, as there will be the follow-up collection development and purchase planning. Thank you in advance for your willingness to share information. I will post a hit in a week or so. Kimberly A. Brosan, Librarian Andrew G.
