This position is open due to my retirement; the person offered the position
last month decided to take another job.
Qualifications: Illinois teacher certification with media specialist
endorsement (certification in another state would be acceptable pending
obtaining Illinois certification). Good technology skills are also
required, including web site maintenance.
The superintendent, George Hopkins, has asked that prospective candidates
telephone him by July 12th at 618 937-2421.
The position is for a full-time LMS at a small-town high school of about
500 students. The collection of about 7500 books, etc. has been updated.
We have access to two databases. There are 22 computers in the library plus
a separate computer lab. The faculty, administration, staff, and (most)
students are great to work with; the faculty is very interested in
collaboration. There is no library aide, but there is a wonderful computer
lab supervisor who is trained to sub in the library and who is willing to
help with library as well as tech tasks.
Salary & benefits (including conference allowances) are quite good. The
area is lovely and is near many recreation areas. Southern Illinois
University is 30 minutes away. West Frankfort is located between St.
Louis, MO,(1.5 hr. drive) and Evansville, IN, (2 hrs.) on Interstate 57.
The pros of the job far outweigh the cons, but on the down-side, the budget
is very limited, there is a high poverty/unemployment rate, computers are
aging, and there are no other librarians in the district (2 elementary
schools, 1 jr. high).
I would love to see a dedicated teacher-librarian taking on this position.
