Many thanks to: JK, Rachel, Georgia, Gail, Laurie, Gloria, Mary, Nell, Jean, and Ginny for their suggestions to my target. My original post: My husband is driving me crazy! He is directing a play and needs some old time car songs to go along with it. (Don't worry, we've discussed copyright!) He isn't looking for the Beach Boys but songs from the 1900's to the 1940's. We already have "My Merry Oldsmobile" and would like others. Searching has come up with little. Any help would be appreciated. Responses: In the Good Old Summertime would be one. "Since Henry Ford Apologized To Me" by The Happiness Boys, 1927 1916 - In The Back Seat Of The Old Henry Ford Have you tried cartalk.com which is related to Click and Clack the tapit brothers on pbs radio. They often put some car songs on the show and might have them online. How about the commercial about on "the road today in a Chevrolet." I don't remember all the words. I think there is one about a Ford, but I can't remember. Tooling around in a model T will probably be too early? I can't think of anymore off hand. You might be able to check looking under car jingles if you haven't already? Woody Guthrie had a children's ditty, going in my car or something like that. Do a Google search for "old timey car songs" There are lots to choose from. You can try http://dmarie.com/timecap/ -- put in a date - go to "Quick Page" and it will give you the hit songs for the year. I looked through some of my personal reference books and could only come up with the Andrews Sisters "Get Your Kicks on Route 66" from 1946. I'm also sending you a link to a website about a book I borrowed last year from a library. It lists songs by subject, and was very thorough. It helped me find what I was looking for. I would have purchased a copy, but it was a little out of my price range. A really good book. Hopefully you can find it at a library somewhere. http:// www.greenbookofsongs.com This is a link to the site that plays the entire song "See the USA in your Chevrolet" by Dinah Shore. It also includes all the lyrics in written form. http://vintagechevrolet.org/articles/VCO_2001019_dinahshore.htm http://local.aaca.org/junior/cartunes/mp3/1930.htm http://www.southernmusic.net/1920.htm http://www.angelfire.com/co/pscst/music.html http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/cultureshock/beyond/jazz.html http://search.1millionpapers.com/cgi-bin/query?mss=1millionpapers&q=Music +1920s&source=googleppc 1930s http://xroads.virginia.edu/~ug03/Jukebox/front.html http://www.yesterdaysmusic.net/ http://www.dismuke.org/ 1940s http://www.geocities.com/Nashville/3448/music.html http://www.1940.co.uk/history/sound/sound.htm http://www.jilldaniels.com/ http://www.dovesong.com/MP3/MP3_Popular.asp http://www.southernmusic.net/1940.htm Marge Shaffer Library Media Specialist Easton High School, MD http://www.tcps.k12.md.us/index.php?page=Media_Center *************************************************** -------------------------------------------------------------------- Please note: All LM_NET postings are protected by copyright law.
