Hi everyone! I asked last week for a list of items that you would
include on a wish list. I recieved a lot of great suggestions. Several
people requested a hit, so here it is. Thank you to everyone who
responded!

I use my In-Focus machine a lot to teach lessons. That would also
require a screen hooked up to your computer. I have 6 - 16 kids in each
K - 8 grade. I find that 3 computers for OPAC and research is not
enough. One more would help a lot.

I also need to boost our 900's section and the 500's. We have a science
fair each year and it seems I never have the right books for the kids.

I think it would be great to have a power point projector installed in
your ceiling. It could be connected to VCR, DVD, and computer located
behind your desk. Remember to include a good sound system with this and

probably a screen that retracts into the ceiling when not in use.
Another good idea would be a digital camera and/or digital video camera.
Hope this helps.

I would put World book Online on the list and EBSCO' s Middle school and
Elementary school databases. I would also definetly add an LCD projector
so tha you can demo lessons and show websites in a format that kids can
see.

Something that I have and could not live without is a laptop
computerwith a computer projector. I use this setup in demonstration
lessons tostudents and in staff workshops. For on-line reference I
wouldrecommend Grolier. With Grolier you can purchse individual
componentsas needed: choice of three encyclopedias, plus science and
geographyreferences.

As far as online resources, we have Encyclopedia Britannica Online and
we are happy with it. It has 3 levels, elem, middle sch, and high sch.
You can choose just one, or get answers from all three (good for higher
reading levels). Hope this helps.

I suppose the bond money the libraries in my district received last year
was a bit like your situation.

I bought $6500 worth of excellent non-fiction from Capstone Press.
Students love it all, AND I got AR tests for $1 ea with my order.

I got a SmartBoard and laptop, and PTA offered $1000 for the projector I
needed.
I already have enough computers, but if not I would make sure I have at
least 6, but 12 would be great. I know with large purchases you can get
deals like $700 per computer from Dell.

I don't pay for any online subscriptions because we have a state
contract that makes EBSCO and SIRS available to all libraries and their
users in our state. This resource is very poorly appreciated and used,
so I have no intention of spending anymore money on such subscriptions.
It's a sad thing because the products/resources are wonderful!! I use
them all the time.

I also rely on free web resources in my library. Our OPAC is web-based
so I just put the links right into the catalog and everyone has access
from any Internet connection.

That would be a great start, and could easily take $10,000. If you can
get $25,000-30,000 in your grant for your school check out wireless,
laptop technology. I also have a 25-computer wireless cart (old now),
and it has been wonderful for use in the library and through out the
school.
