I was in a situation like this too -- thankfully, no longer. What I learned very quickly is that only when loss of services have a direct and negative impact on their students will parents complain. When parents complain, action will be taken. Until then, cut as many unnecessary services as you possibly can. Prioritize the rest... processing before shelving, shelving before weeding, lesson plans before birthday club..... Take care of professional business first as much as possible - your district is not paying you to be a clerk. What gets done, gets done and what doesn't, doesn't. You only have so many (contract) hours in a day. Good luck. C. I literally have boxes of books that need to be processed in. I've told my principal that they will get done when I have time. I use the time during book fair when I don't have classes. I stopped my birthday book club this year. Yes, the library lost about a $1000 this year. Last year I many parent complaints because their child didn't get to select a book ON his or her birthday. Since I can't promise this will happen I stopped the book club. When asked why I had a drop in donations I explain that it's because I no longer have support staff.
