While browsing the exhibits during last week's Texas Library Association annual
conference in Houston, I met with a representative from Overdrive.com
(http://www.overdrive.com ) Overdrive is a web-based supplier of audio books and
videos for public libraries. At this time, there are several public libraries that
offer these services to their patrons--Garland Public Library here in Texas is just
one that has been in the news and I know that Oregon and Washington have libraries
that promote this product well!

I mentioned (strongly) that many schools would be interested in the opportunity to
participate in an audio-download project with a company that would allow them to
make audio books accessible to their students via MP3 players. The representative
gave me his business card and told me to contact him---and I've left the card at
home today, figures!

However, if you are interested in contacting this person to ask (request) that
Overdrive make these types of products available to schools, please let me know
(off-list) and I'll send you his name and contact information.

I have been searching for a unique and simple way to provide both audio and video
products to our students (aside from multiple accounts from Audible.com or United
Streaming), so this was really exciting! I know that many of you are also looking
into these types of products because I've received emails requesting information
about audio downloads to iPods.

Let me know if you're interested and perhaps some of us can be a "beta market" for
the company to test the product at our school libraries!
