I went to a conference at which M.T. Anderson was one of the speakers. First, let me say that he is one of my favorite authors (and thinkers) of all time. I LOVED Feed!! I think that he could be appropriate for 4-5th graders, but I think that he is best with 10th-12th graders. His ideas are so well thought out and so relevant today. He is able to articulate his ideas best to these upper high school kids who are so into this technology - IMing, blogging, search engines, online shopping, etc. I interned in a high school last year and the big project that I was dying to do was to have a group of juniors be assigned to read Feed with their English teacher, then to come to the library for an author visit from M.T. Anderson and to watch the streaming video "EPIC 2014." They would then conduct research on some aspect of the book, the author visit, and the streaming video - where the themes met. That was my idea last year, which never worked out because of budget and time constraints. Anyone is welcome to use it! Anderson Hi, Has anyone had M. T. Anderson ("The Strange Mr. Satie," "Whales on Stilts," etc.) from the Boston area for an author visit? If so, is he appropriate for 4-5th grade? I'm only starting to read his books and think his "off-the-wall" writing style and sense of humor would jumpstart the imaginations of many students. Thanks for your input!
