Hello, Does anyone know if the character of Gertrude McFuzz by Dr. Seuss was inspired by any particular person or incident? Gertrude is the character from Yertle the Turtle who starts off by trying to have a long ostentatious feather, but ends up being a humanitarian activist (of sorts). Ed Nizalowski, SMS Newark Valley High School Newark Valley, NY enizalowski@nvcs.stier.org "Our suicidal poets (Plath, Berryman . . . et al) spent too much of their lives inside rooms and classrooms when they should have been trudging up mountains, slogging through swamps, rowing down rivers. The indoor life is the next best thing to premature burial."
