Yes! Yes! "Read the shelves"...a long-time favorite. I also like "book truck." Sounds like a Tonka Toy. Reggie BOOKS. The original laptops. If Reading was a Varsity Sport, Librarians would rule the world. Yesterday during a class of sophomores I was reviewing some of the terminology...They all knew OPAC - think I have drummed into their heads... That said, however, when I asked them about the Roaring Cat (the public library/college and university/school combined catalog) - one student answered "it's the great OPAC in the sky." I guess I must have referred to it before in that manner. Before I even got there, I asked them - "what is the name of the library catalog that includes every library in all the counties around here?" - the response from one young man was ""the flaming peacock" -- much better name I think! I miss some of the old terminology - like "p slips" (would make us giggle when we were in high school) and I always get a blank stare when I ask the library club to "read the shelves." As an example of the times since most of them have NetFlicks or go to Blockbusters or Hollywood Video - almost every student will ask me "May I rent this book?"
