My original query read:

>>I'm in search of ideas for another quite-readable (read: not too
>>challenging) and not-too-dated novel with appeal for grades 4-5 girls
>>that TEACHERS are likely to be very familiar with. (In this case, it's
>>essential that the title would be recognized--and popular--with teachers
>>as well as kids). The Amber Brown series springs to mind. Any other
>>suggestions?

In addition to the titles suggested by all of you generous folk, I'd also
like to recommend Love, Ruby Lavender by Deborah Wiles, one of my VERY
favorites.

Thanks to all!
Toni

A newer Cleary book, such as Ramona Forever

***
Kate diCamillo's The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane is so outstanding!
I also love all the Linda Sue Park books!

***
Molly McGinty by Gary Paulsen. I think there may be more than one. Also,
Judy Moody is popular at my school.

***
Judy Moody series (too young?)
Ida B. and her plans to maximize fun...
Ruby Holler
Melanie Martin series (Weston)
Amazing Days of Abby Hayes series (Mazer)
The newer, for younger readers, "Alice" series by Naylor (where Alice is
the new girl in 3rd grade)
"Beany" series by Wojciechowski (teachers might not know the books but the
4th grade girls love them)

***
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume many sequels

***
Seeing Sugar by Brinson, Cynthia L. is a great one!

Say What? by Margaret Peterson Haddix plus her whole Among the Hidden
Series which are really popular with my 4th and 5ths.

***
Readable, fairly current and popular titles for 4th & 5th grade girls
that are well-known by most teachers:
The Ghost of Fossil Glen and sequels
Because of Winn-Dixie
School Story from Andrew Clements' school series
Katie Kazoo Switcheroo series
Judy Moody series

***
What about Lucy Rose, Clarice Bean, and Judy Moody (although those books
are really for a slightly younger group)? Or the Amelia's Notebook series
by Marisa Montes? Would those characters be familiar enough to teachers?
