This is certainly not intended to start a flame war between people of opposing viewpoints, but Jill's post got me thinking. I have been more inclined to let go of some of the more traditional collection activities in favor of more interacting with students when prioritizing must be done. I don't want to see myself as slavishly connected to the traditional activities of a librarian (along with the negative stereotypical shushing and book protecting)but Jill made me think that perhaps I am going too far in that direction and more time spent on book evaluating, cataloging, shelving, would be better for my students than what I am offering now. I would love to see a respectful discussion of our various philosophies in this area.
