One of the American Lit classes has 5 students who have already studied The Crucible in another class. I told her that I was sure we could come up with some popular fiction titles with themes similar to The Crucible for them to do a comparison study while the class is reading The Crucible. A Great and Terrible Beauty had come to mind while I was having this discussion with the teacher, but now I can't think of any other titles! She would also be interested in themes that involved cencorship, as they do discuss the political climate when the play was written. Any ideas? The books should be 9-12 grade books.
