I am in elementary (but circulation is MUCH higher at elementary than secondary in
my district), and my school is about 550. This is the average for our 21
elementary schools, and most of us handle our circ the same. My collection is
about 12,000.

We circulate for 2 weeks with unlimited renewal unless reserved and no fines.

Some schools circulate AV materials. It's just the LMS's choice. Usually it's
handled over the weekend, and those who do it say it's popular, easy and not a
problem.

We also circulate magazines just like the books.

Teachers check out items for the school year just so they don't have to bother
with any overdue notices. Of course they are always bringing back the "safety"
books to get the "plant" books for the next unit. They don't really keep
everything all year.

We circulate books for a one month period - with unlimited renewals (unless
reserved)

DVD/VIDEO/CD-ROM/CD -- we make a bargain with the student - how long does
s/he need it?

are we off-base or does anyone handle circulation this way?

Subject: [LM_NET] GEN: check-out period

How long would you recommend a regular student checkout period be set for a
high school with
enrollment of approx 450 students and a relatively small library collection?

I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go
into
the other room and read a book.
