Personally, I love the Skippyjon Jones books and am anxiously
awaiting the next one (also, there are two more coming out in Feb.
about Colors and Shapes, I think). I have read the book to every
grade from K-5. Since reading it last year it hasn't been on the
shelf for more than a few seconds. I have children of all ages
coming to me and asking for either of the books. My 1st graders last
year (now 2nd grade) were even saying there needed to be a Christmas
one, and thought it would be fun to write it themselves. My student
population is heavy on the Hispanic side and no one mentioned having
a problem with Skippyjon's use of Spanish. Actually, I think they
like it. It hadn't even occurred to me that someone might be
offended. It is interesting to hear of other schools' experiences.
