[LM_NET] topics to trace from beginning to the present

Looking for topic ideas. -Our wonderful English 11 teacher is planning
on having her class do research.  They're to choose something to trace
from its beginning to the present, like jazz or treatment for diabetes
or highways in the U.S.  She has a large group this year and would like
to provide a wide range of topic ideas.  We would greatly appreciate
adding any of your clever suggestions to our list.
